Fashion review: emerging talent at Fashion Week

London Fashion Week (LFW) is not all about the runways or the latest trends from London’s most loved designers such as Vivienne Westwood and Stella McCartney

LFW also exists to shine a spotlight on future stars and provide a platform for emerging design talent, and they seem to have a sweet spot for our very own Central Saint Martins students.

Besides current CSM MA fashion designers having their very own runway show, CSM alumni also have some exciting opportunities.

One of them is women’s ready-to-wear designer Edeline Lee.

Having graduated from CSM Womenswear, with an apprenticeship at Alexander McQueen and her clothes being shown at Somerset House for LFW, Lee is definitely one to watch and a hot young designer this season.

Designers pull out all the stops to stand out at LFW, and Lee is no different. Her autumn-winter 2014 collection is inspired by the streets of New York and London and despite being grittier than her previous work, it is thankfully not filled with crazy, out-there looks that most people would not be caught dead in.

It is accessible and creative clothing that a lot of young, big city women would feel comfortable and sexy wearing.

Clean, structured and with a modern, feminine touch, it is evident that Lee’s clothes are handmade, given her attention to detail.

Despite her Korean roots and Canadian upbringing, Lee finished the looks off with an undoubtedly London-inspired twist; platform sneakers with graffiti-like imagery sketched on them.

There are plenty of ways for a designer to present their collections for the season, and one of the most common means is by having their own showrooms. Lee did just that: her designs were presented by models or mannequins in her own space, allowing guests to go in one group at a time to get a glimpse of her designs.

With a DJ spinning some atmospheric tunes, it felt like an art gallery/fashion extravaganza and an awesome way to feature and discover new designs.
