Death by Megabus

Last summer I went to Amsterdam for a week with a friend. We thought we would try the newly established Megabus service that takes you directly there with a quick stop-and-collect in Brussels.

Worst decision ever

Thinking we’d have more time in the city we chose the night-time bus journey, which would leave London Victoria at 9pm and arrive at 9am. It took 11 hours including a jaunt on the Dover-Calais ferry at 3 in the morning.

If you’re able to sleep on buses and don’t mind massive groups of ‘LADS’ journeying with you, then the £15 ticket each way is perfect. But if you’re like me, and you need a faster alternative, then for only an extra £35 you can buy a RETURN ticket to fly there with easyJet that takes a mere one hour and five minutes!

Thankfully after the nightmare journey we had going there, we had a seven day wait until the thrill of the next bus home.

PS: the city of Amsterdam was very nice, the weather was crap most of the time, but there were some pretty good bars and clubs. Plus we got to experience the ‘delights’ of a coffee shop.
