Archangel: Worth more than a flying visit
Situated in the heart of Kensington High Street, Archangel is a small and cosy bar, and there’s a basement nightclub with the capacity to hold around 250 people for their regular events.
The atmosphere is lively, with a selection of music ranging from soul to house and electro to everyone’s favourite old school classics.
A short five minute walk from High Street Kensington Underground station and just a corner turn away from Hyde Park and Knightsbridge, the bar boasts an excellent location to kick off your night out or to have a nice meal.
The lunch menu at Archangel is available from 12 noon to 4pm, with prices starting at £4.99 for a burger meal, £9.99 for rib eye steak and £5.99 for a club sandwich or fish and chips. The evening menu consists of small tapas-style plates which are ideal for sharing, starting at £3.95. There are also salads at £6.25, main dishes from £9.95 and bar snacks from £2.95.
While the food is good quality, the focus is more on the nightlife of both the bar and club, which is understandable as the venue is not really advertised as a restaurant. Most other clubs around the Kensington area usually have £20 entry fees whereas this is free, and drinks start from a minimum of £10 so Archangel will suit your student pockets.
Drink prices are London standard with spirits starting at £4, cocktails at £8.25 and wines from £3.90. The serving of the alcohol was quite generous, however this is not something most people would complain about.
The 2am closing time Monday to Friday definitely adds to the attraction.
The entry is free apart from selected dates where special events take place, but overall it is a perfect place to chill and catch up with friends. On certain days of the week Archangel plays host as a live music venue, and if you go to www.aaa.uk.net you will be able to keep track of what events are taking place. These range from karaoke, to comedy nights and different bands playing at the venue.
The 2am closing time on Monday to Friday definitely adds to the attraction, especially if you are not up to trekking to another club afterwards. Archangel also has a table reservations service that is free of charge.
Getting a table reservation is definitely advised if you were to go, as it does get busy and there are not as many tables available for the amount of people that do show up. The venue usually fills up with mostly Kensington locals, although the crowd is varied.
