Murray Mania Keeps People Off The Courts
As the tennis season kicks of with The Australian Open, Tennis Clubs say fewer people are playing despite predictions after Murray’s Win at Wimbledon.
A Team Leader at Burgess Park Tennis Club in London told LCC Broadcast that some courts upped their prices, hoping Murray Mania would bring more players, but have since been left empty in Winter Months. Students and young enthusiasts, he said, are the only ones braving the cold and on weekends especially, many courts are completely empty.
At Geraldine Mary Harmsworth Tennis Centre nearby, it’s even worse. I went on a Tuesday evening to find all three courts completely empty. The only person there was receptionist who told me they hadn’t had a booking all week. But with Dan Evans through the qualifiers in Australia and Murray as our best hope of a win, let’s hope the fair weather players hit the courts this summer.
